Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine Treatments

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing practice that supports the body’s natural ability to heal and rebalance. Using ultra-fine, sterile needles placed at specific points, it helps regulate circulation, calm the nervous system, relieve pain, and restore overall harmony. Acupuncture is a gentle, holistic approach to health that addresses both physical and emotional well-being.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient healing method used in Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves placing specialized glass or plastic cups on the skin to create a gentle suction. This technique is often applied to tight muscles or acupuncture points and helps reduce tension, increase circulation, and support the body’s natural healing response.

According to TCM philosophy, pain is often caused by stagnation in the body. Cupping helps move stagnant energy, blood, and toxins by drawing them toward the surface, allowing fresh circulation to flow freely. Sessions typically last between 5 and 20 minutes, leaving you feeling more relaxed, balanced, and restored.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a healing practice from Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool. It is typically performed on the back, neck, or shoulders to encourage circulation, release tension, and promote healing.

The technique may cause light red or purple marks on the skin, which are a natural response to the stimulation. These marks are a sign that stagnant blood and toxins are being moved out of the tissue. With consistent treatments, the marks become lighter and less frequent as circulation improves and the body becomes more balanced.

Moxabustion

Moxibustion, also known as moxa, is a traditional healing method in Chinese medicine that uses the heat from burning dried mugwort leaves to support the body’s natural healing process. This gentle warmth is applied over acupuncture points to encourage circulation and restore energetic balance.

At our clinic, we use two common forms of moxa. Pole moxa involves holding a stick of compressed mugwort near the skin to deliver heat, while needle moxa involves placing a small amount of moxa on an acupuncture needle to allow the warmth to travel deeper into the body.

Moxa is often used alongside acupuncture and is known for its calming, soothing effect. Many patients describe it as a comforting warmth that promotes deep relaxation and a greater sense of well-being.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a core part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of health concerns. It involves the use of natural plant-based ingredients, either on their own or blended into customized formulas, to support the body’s healing process.

These formulas are carefully selected by a trained practitioner to match your individual needs. When used on their own or alongside acupuncture, herbal medicine can help restore balance, boost overall wellness, and support long-term health. Prescriptions are typically provided during your acupuncture visit, ensuring they’re tailored specifically to you.
